Living History

History is not only a part of our past but it is also a part of our present. We feel as if we connect with our ancestors when we practice our traditional lifeways. Watch these vidoes to learn more.

  • HERITAGE: Elnu Abenaki Interview

Elnu Abenaki demonstrate their Ancestors' rituals, Arts and ways of life during the Native American encampment at the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum in Vergennes Vermont. 2008.

Roger Longtoe Sheehan. Interviewed by Emily Nelson. Recorded July 13, 2008. Burlington Free Press. 2008.

  • Re-enacting vs Living History

Professor Fredrick M. Wiseman of Johnson State College and Roger Longtoe Sheehan Sogomo (Chief) of the El-Nu Abenaki Tribe shed light on a much debated topic in the educational world. Are people of Native descent who portray their ancestors 're-enactors' or historic interpreters? Something else entirely? What's the difference between the the two commonly (and wrongfully) interchanged words?

Filmed on site at the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum. Filmed, produced & edited by Lina Longtoe.
